A new Chatham-Kent Municipal by-law was passed this week at Council, stating that smoking or lit tobacco be prohibited at all Municipally owned and operated parks and recreation facilities, and all sports and recreation fields, including stadium seating around the fields or play area.

The new Smoke Free Chatham-Kent bylaw aims to meet council’s directions that Chatham-Kent be a healthy and active community.

New monies for signs and enforcement come within public health’s current Smoke Free Ontario budget allotment.

The by-law is expected to take effect immediately.
