College Baseball Double Header In Chatham This Weekend
The game, which starts at 1pm Sunday, will also have a local feel between the OUA and OCAA teams, as Chatham’s Alec Miller, and Kent Bridge’s Mark Van Rycheghem made the Laurier Golden Hawks roster this Fall.
“We are excited at the non-conference schedule that we have put together this year'” said Laurier Head Coach Scott Ballantyne in a Golden Hawks news release about their preseason schedule, including their stop in Chatham.
“We will play 11 games before our first conference game which will allow us an opportunity to mix and match to find a line-up that we will feel comfortable with to start our season. The non-conference games last year provided us a great opportunity for our younger players to get a taste of what OUA Baseball is all about and that depth proved invaluable to us down the stretch last season. St. Clair College, Humber College and the University of Windsor are all very strong teams and will prepare us for our conference season. Getting off to a fast start is a big key to a short season and our tough non-conference schedule will allow us to work out the kinks and get the jitters out of the way for our younger players before the start of the conference schedule.”
The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks open their regular season September 6 when they host the Western Mustangs.
Chatham will be filled with baseball action this weekend, as the OBA “B” Championship Tournaments for Senior Rookie Ball and Major Mosquito’s will be held in Chatham Labour Day Weekend. The Rookie Ball Tournament will be held at Jaycee Park in Chatham, while the Mosquito Tournament will be held at Thames Campus.
