The Dresden Jr. Kings have snatched up a coveted prospect, as they signed Pain Court’s Ross Krieger with their underage card.

A 16-year-old, Krieger, who was thought of as an OHL prospect last season after leading the Chatham-Kent Cyclones Minor Midget ‘AAA’ team in regular season scoring, and scoring more than a point per game in the playoffs, Krieger is a highly skilled player, who stands 5’9″.

“I really appreciate the opportunity that the Junior Kings have given me to play junior hockey this season,” says Krieger of signing with Dresden.

“I hope to develop and improve my game to move on to the next level in the upcoming years. I want to contribute to help achieve our team goal.”

Krieger, who had 10 goals and 12 assists in 32 regular season games with the Cyclones, and 7 goals and 9 assists in 15 playoff games, also possesses leadership skills, as he served as an assistant captain for the Cyclones.

Last year’s underage player for the Dresden Jr. Kings, Dede Cato, attended multiple OHL camps this season, and has signed to play Junior A for the OJHL’s Toronto Patriots.

With Krieger off the market, the list of available 16-year-old players in the area capable of playing Junior hockey continues to shrink. His teammates from last season, Brady Pataki and Joseph Raaymakers, will both start the season in the OHL. As well, Levi Tetrault and Brendan Harrogate are both expected to play for the Chatham Maroons.

Other top 16-year-old prospects available include forwards Nolan Gardiner of Tilbury, who was an Ottawa 67s draft pick, Nick Delyzer, Jarret Marks, and Blair Derynck, as well as defensemen Ben Nicholls and Kyle Fife. These players will fight it out for the remaining 16-year-old slots available in Wallaceburg, Blenheim, and Wheatley, or will be forced to play Major Midget in Windsor, or drop to ‘AA’ in Chatham.
