The Great Lakes Junior C preseason opened Sunday with the Wheatley Sharks edging the Blenheim Blades 4-3.

New Blades acquisition Bryan Boersma, who is returning to Blenheim following three seasons in Junior B with the Lambton Shores Predators opened the scoring midway through the game, breaking a scoreless tie in the second period.

Wheatley however would answer back, with Dylan Enns scoring on the powerplay.

Entering the third period tied 1-1, Calyn Kir put Wheatley ahead with the team’s second powerplay marker of the evening. After Matt Clark tied the score for Blenheim at 2-2, Wheatley would finally break the pattern of trading goals and score a pair.

Shawn Hope potted the first, before Matt Taylor scored Wheatley’s third powerplay goal of the game.

Blenheim veteran Kurt Beecroft scored late in the game, but the Blades couldn’t even it up, ending the game with a 4-3 advantage for the Wheatley Sharks.

In other Junior C preseason action this week, the Mooretown Flags host the Dresden Kings Thursday, before Dresden hosts Alvinston Friday, and Amherstburg welcomes Wheatley on Friday.
