Wallaceburg Lacrosse Hands Out Annual Awards
Griffin of the Year, presented annually to the top minor lacrosse player demonstrating high proficiency and inspirational leadership qualities, combined with an active contribution to the Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse program, went to both Kyle Dawson and Brock Redford. The duo both spent time with the Wallaceburg Red Devils Junior B team, and are skilled field lacrosse players.
Coach of the Year was Tye Belanger, who is also a professional lacrosse player with the NLL’s Colorado Mammoth. Belanger, who now lives in Wallaceburg, coached the Intermediate Girls team to a provincial gold medal.
Those Intermediate girls shared the Team of the Year honours with the Intermediate Boys Wallaceburg Griffins, who also captured provincial gold.
O’Neil Memorial Award, which is an unsung hero award given to a behind the scene person who gives a lot to the sport of lacrosse, years of dedication, and doesn’t always get the recognition they deserve, was handed to Brian Dewagner.
Other awards included the Norm Cole Award, which went to Jason Fox, the Joanne Smith Memorial Award, which was given to Doug Browning, and the Heart and Soul Award, which was given to co-winners McKenzie Turner and Brandon Vilaranda.
