The Blenheim Blades looked sharp in their season opener, holding off the Lakeshore Canadiens for a 3-1 win.

New goaltender Klinton Kenney was the backbone of the Blades, making 46 saves in the victory, including several in the final minutes of the game while Lakeshore had an extra attacker out with their net empty. Lakeshore’s only goal game with 1:34 to go in the game and an extra attacker on, when JJ Percy banged home a loose puck.

Blenheim opened the scoring in the game early in the second period as Zack Horvath streaked in on a breakaway. Bryan Boersma and Bryce Broad picked up assists on the play.

In the third, Dylan Smith scored his first goal as a Blenheim Blade to make the score 2-0. After Lakeshore scored to pull within one, Dylan Muzzatti put the game on ice sliding home an empty netter.

Kenney, who came over to the Blades in the offseason from the Amherstburg Admirals was named the games first star, a deserving honour as the Blades were outshot 47-26.

Blenheim will travel to play Amherstburg next Saturday before hosting the Dresden Kings Sunday, September 21.
