It was a busy night in the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League for Chatham-Kent teams, with the Blenheim Blades and Wheatley Sharks picking up wins.

In Wheatley, the Sharks were hosting the Dresden Kings. Early in the first period, 16-year-old Nolan Gardiner scored his second goal of the season to give the Sharks the early lead. Only a minute and a half later, Scott Florence, who is the early league scoring leader with 15-points through 6-games, scored to make it 2-0 for the Sharks.

In the second period, Austin Thompson continued to extend Wheatley’s lead, before Florence scored his second of the game in the third period to put the game on ice.

Adam Leboeuf, who played for the Blenheim Blades last season, collected his first Junior shutout in net for Wheatley, stopping all 32 shots he faced.

In Mooretown, the Flags were hosting the Blenheim Blades, who were looking to snap a streak of being shutout in back-to-back games.

It didn’t take long for the Blades to do just that, as veteran Corbin Hagerman scored, with assists going to Bryce Broad and Justin Baker.

Brandon Falconer would then score, with Broad and Baker assisting again, to make it 2-0, before Austin Bentley closed out the first period with a goal to put Blenheim ahead 3-0.

After a scoreless second, the teams would trade goals in the third, with Tyler Boughner netting Blenheim’s final goal in a 4-1 victory.

Blenheim will host the Alvinston Flyers Sunday night.
