When the Blenheim Bobcats took to the field Thursday in LKSSAA 8-man football, they weren’t just fighting for a win, they were pulling together to show support for teammate Mitch Moore, who is battling cancer.

Prior to the game, a 28-0 Blenheim win over the Lambton Central Lancers, the entire Bobcats roster shaved their heads, to show support for Moore, who has been a teammate in football, and other sports including hockey, for several years.

“As a team we thought that it would be good to do for Mitch,” said Tanner Shuian, who scored a touchdown in the win. “Nobody should have to fight that alone and we wanted to support him.”

“We all showed our support and shaved our heads,” explained Mo Ibari, another key cog in the Bobcats’ offense. “It motivated us to win the game for him, to show that we as a team care and how much love we teammates have for each other.”

Although the Bobcats are always motivated for a win, Thursday’s victory was a little sweeter, as the team wanted to perform for the most important part of their team, Mitch Moore, who was in attendance at the game.

“As for the game, you’re always coming in motivated, but when you have the kind of day our school had and how close together we came today, and have Mitch there to watch us, we just felt it was a must win for Mitch,” said Shuian.

The Blenheim Bobcats also got touchdowns in the win from Dalton Shuian, Matt Laidlaw, and Jeremy Wammes.

The Bobcats are now off until October 3, when they travel to Sarnia to play the St. Clair Colts.
