Council Candidate Mark Authier Talks Chatham-Kent Sports
The Chatham-Kent Municipal election day is October 27, 2014.
Here are council candidate Mark Authier’s responses. Authier is running for council in Ward 1 – West Kent.
1. Background in sports and recreation:
I am currently the president of the Merlin Kinsmen Minor Ball Association. We have approximately 110 children playing in three age groups. We play every Wednesday night at 6:30. I am a fill in coach when a coach cannot make it. I have been the president for the past four years. During that time I coached for two years as well. At this time I have no children playing in this association.
2. What specific ideas or goals do you have for Chatham-Kent, to improve or maintain recreational programs and facilities, and support our athletes and sports organizations? Or to help build opportunities for future growth in these areas?
We are trying to expand this to all of Ward 1 as I know many of our areas in the community no longer have baseball programs. We will be advertising in the paper as well as taking flyers to the schools in the ward.
3. How will you work to make Chatham-Kent a healthier, more active place to live?
In Ward 1, I would like to introduce a stay fit program. Starting with a walking program for all ages as well as a running club. With all the schools that have running tracks we will not need a new area to do this. As well I would like to start a program at our pools to stay fit with fun exercises for our youth.
4. Anything else you’d like to add?
I would like to introduce a triathlon in Wheatley, where we could have a bike ride, swim and run. This would be for fun only and for all ages.
