After playing his first NHL preseason game Wednesday night with the Vancouver Canucks, Thamesville’s Dane Fox has been assigned to the American Hockey League.

Fox, who signed with the Vancouver Canucks as a free agent last December, was assigned Wednesday to the AHL’s Utica Comets, as one of eight players released from the Canucks.

Seeing 13:20 of ice time Wednesday against the San Jose Sharks, Fox has two penalty minutes, a shot, and four hits for the Canucks in a 4-2 split squad win.

The reigning OHL Overage Player of the Year, Fox scored 64 goals and added 43 assists with the Erie Otters last season, totalling 107 points in only 67 games.

Utica begins their AHL regular season October 11 and 12 with a pair of games in Toronto against the Toronto Marlies.
