EnviroClean Cougar of the Week: Dean Creechan
Creechan is a volunteer with the Cougars’ organization, serving as the Cougars Football Equipment Manager.
According to Cougars’ president Sel Jordan, Creechan’s contributions all season, and in particular this past week, to get the Fall Minor Football season rolling, made the season kick off a success.
“It is always an emotional day for me when I look and see all three fields at the CK Community Athletic Complex behind CKSS school are full of football players learning the game, and all have butterflies to participate in the very first competition with their teammates and coaches,” explained Jordan. “This scene reaches a peak for me when the Tykes are leaving the field after their scrimmage, the Peewees are playing on the main field, and the Bantams are warming up on the soccer fields, but most parents and players do not realize the amount of work that is involved for this moment to happen….and Dean Creechan is a big part of the overall success of the Cougar Football League Scrimmage Day.”
The Cougar Minor football always starts the season with a round-robin exhibition game that involves 12 football teams in 3 divisions (Tyke, Peewee, Bantam), this year involving 135 players that needed to be suited up with equipment, and coaches/teams that need ball bags, kicking tees, cones, and other equipment, for which Creechan is the main source.
“Dean made sure all the teams were properly equipped,” says Jordan, of Creechan nicknamed “Mean Dean,” although Jordan says he doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. Creechan also coaches with the Cougars.
Creechan’s contributions to the Cougars organization are wide spanning, and he’s recognized as a crucial cog to the organization behind the scenes.
“I have been known to be the person who works behind the scenes, but I truly believe that Dean Creechan holds this title,” says Dee Meurkes, Cougars Director of Registration. ” No matter what I need, that man is always able to lend me a helping hand or sometimes ….. a listening ear. We bounce a lot of things off each other and we always come out with a plan. I could not think of a better person deserving of the Cougar of the Week award.”
“I may have shown Dean “how the cougars organization” operates,” continued Meurkes, “but he has shown me how we keep this organization running. He is more than just our equipment manager.”
