Former Cyclone Gagnon Signs With OHL’s Barrie Colts
Gagnon, a 9th round selection of the Colts in 2013, spent last season with the Belle River Canadiens, and had committed to play for the OJHL’s Toronto Patriots prior to signing with the Barrie Colts for this coming season.
“All I have I say is that hard work pays off and be patient, because an opportunity will come, just have to jump on the chances,” said Gagnon in reaction to signing with the Colts.
“Feels good to be playing at the highest junior level, can’t wait to work hard.”
Hard work is how Gagnon made the rapid ascension from the Junior C ranks to the OHL, and it’s one of the assets Gagnon brought to Colts camp that caught the eye of management.
“Kody is a physically strong kid that skates well and came to training camp determined to make the hockey club. He adds a good skill-set to the back-end and is willing to put in the work to make himself a better hockey player,” Barrie Colts General Manager Jason Ford said in a Barrie Colts media release.
In 35 games played last season in the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League, Gagnon, who stands six-foot-three, scored 9 goals and 12 assists totalling 21 points as a 16-year-old rookie. Gagnon then added 11 points in 19 playoff games for the Canadiens. Gagnon most recently played for the Chatham-Kent Cyclones during his bantam years.
The Barrie Colts open their OHL season September 25 when they host the Oshawa Generals.
