The Dresden Kings kept their fans at the Lambton-Kent Memorial Agircultural Centre on the edge of their seats Friday night, holding on in their season and home opener for a 3-2 win against the Alvinston Flyers.

Dresden looked nervous in the opening minutes of the game as Brett Duncan slid one by Scott Tricker, who was making his first start in a Dresden Kings uniform.

The Kings would answer back as Thamesville’s Dillon Liberty drove to the net for a shot, setting up a juicy rebound for Macks Holmes, who buried his first of the season behind Alvinston netminder Brett Avery.

Minutes later, new addition Justin Delgado put the Kings ahead 2-1, as he fired home a pass from Taylor Sisson. Delgado showed skill and his speed throughout the game, and was named the games 2nd star.

In the second period, Sisson would add a goal of his own, jumping on a loose puck on the penalty kill and scoring a shorthanded goal, which would stand as the game winner.

Tricker was solid for the Kings in the win, making 27 saves.

Dresden now travels to play Amherstburg Sunday.
