The Wallaceburg Lakers dropped their 2014-2015 home opener 3-1 at home to the Amherstburgh Admirals. The loss, according to Wallaceburg’s coaches, was an early season bump in the road they expected due to the age and experience of their roster.

“We were happy with the way the boys played tonight. It is going to take at least 5 games for the Rookies to get to the Jr C level. Even with the loss it was positive,” said Assistant Coach Derek Ellis. Ellis also said, “This is a different Wallaceburg Lakers Hockey Club.”

Wallaceburg’s Brock Daugherty scored the Lakers’ lone goal late in the first period, with assists going to Bronson Bea and Trevor Waller.

Daugherty has suited up for the Kent Teksavvy Cobras Midget ‘AA’ team the past two seasons, scoring 7 goals and 9 assists in 49 games last season with the Major Midget team.

Joel Sowinski made 29 saves in net for the Lakers in the losing effort.

Amhertsburg’s goals came from Chad Copeland, Mark Sobocan, and Brett Banwell.

Wallaceburg will travel to Mooretown this Saturday to face the Flags, before hosting the Essex 73s next Wednesday.
