The Chatham Maroons handled the Strathroy Rockets Sunday night, staying perfect early in the GOJHL regular season.

Chatham handed the Rockets a 4-1 loss, lighting the lamp early and often.

After Strathroy scored first, Chatham found their feet, with Steven Beenackers getting his first of the season, with Connor McKinnon and Brayden Hopkins assisting. Jared Dennis would grab the lead for the Maroons in the first period, with Beenackers and McKinnon picking up their second points of the game.

In the second, Mark Fratarcangelli kept the Maroons powering forward, sliding one by the Strathroy netminder to make the score 3-1. Captain Michael Verboom, and 16-year-old Levi Tetrault picked up assists on the play.

Trevor Richardson would expand the Maroons’ lead further scoring his team’s fourth goal of the game before the period was out. Richardson would keep the ball rolling as the third period got underway, scoring his second of the game to extend Chatham’s lead to 5-1, which is where the score would end.

Bo Bessette played another strong game for the Maroons in net.

The Chatham Maroons, who are now 3-0 on the season, will travel to face the Lambton Shores Predators next Saturday, before hosting the Sarnia Legionnaires Sunday in Chatham.
