Maroons Shootout The Stars

Chatham-Maroons-Jersey-New-DarkThe Chatham Maroons needed a shootout, but they were able to take down the St. Thomas Stars in the 2014-2015 GOJHL season opener Friday night on the road.

After both teams opening shooters were turned away, Chatham veterans Brennan Feasey and Michael Verboom each walked in and scored in the shootout, to lift the Maroons to a 5-4 victory.

In the opening period, Trevor Richardson scored Chatham’s first goal of the season, with Swedish forward Carl Stapleton picking up the assist.

Trailing St. Thomas 2-1 midway through the first, Alex Morgan scored against the same team he captained last year, with Brayden Hopkins and Verboom each picking up helpers on the play.

Ian Faubert continued Chatham’s assault on the Stars’ net, scoring less than a minute and a half later.

After St. Thomas scored the lone second period goal, and scored to take a 4-3 lead in the third period, Brennan Feasey, with Verboom assisting, scored in the third to tie the game and send it to overtime.

With extra time solving nothing, and both goaltenders shutting the door, the game went to a shootout, where Feasey and Verboom ended it for Chatham.

Goalie Jacob Lucier made 34 saves for Chatham in the win.

The Maroons now return home for their home opener Sunday night against the Leamington Flyers.
