Meidlinger Wins Job With Trent
When Ridgetown’s Julia Meidlinger stepped onto the Trent University campus this Fall, she had intended on pursuing a University degree.
After making the Trent University Excalibur’s women’s varsity volleyball team as a walk on however, Meidlinger will now be pursuing an OCAA title with her Trent teammates, along with her degree.
“I am very excited about playing at the next level,” says Meidlinger, a UCC graduate, who will be working toward a Bachelor of Arts and Science at Trent.
“I am honoured to be chosen for this team and I can’t wait to develop my skills further, I am very happy to continue playing the sport I love,” added the Chatham Ballhawks and Sarnia Twin Bridges volleyball alumni.
Meidlinger, who played power for the UCC Lancers this year, helping her school to their first ever Kent and SWOSSAA titles, says she was nervous heading into tryouts as a walk on, but quickly found her spot, and is now excited for Trent’s schedule to begin.
“I was very nervous heading into tryouts but the veterans of the team were a very supportive group of girls,” says Meidlinger. “Having that support calmed my nerves and allowed me to focus on drills. Having made the Trent team still feels very surreal. The girls are very welcoming and I can’t wait to begin the season.”
Meidlinger and the Trent Excalibur will open their 2014-2015 OCAA women’s volleyball season October 22 when they host Durham.
