Montour To Miss NCAA Start Due To Eligibility Issue
According to reports by Massachusetts media, Montour will be forced to miss all games, and won’t enrol at the University of Massachusetts until December 16 due to eligibility issues.
“UMass hockey defensman and Anaheim Ducks draft pick Brandon Montour will miss the first semester due to NCAA clearinghouse issue,” Tweeted Mark Chiarelli, Massachusetts Daily Collegian Sports Editor and UMass beat writer.
Montour, a Chatham-Kent Cyclones alumni and former Tilbury resident, was one of UMass’ top recruits, entering as the USHL Defenseman and Player of the Year, after lighting the USHL on fire last season with 62 points in 60 games for the Waterloo Black Hawks, en route to being drafted in the second round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Ducks.
“UMass hockey D Brandon Montour won’t enroll until Dec. 16. No further information being given,” Tweeted Matt Vautour of the Daily Hampshire Gazette about the situation.
With little information given, at least at the moment, Montour is expected to return to the USHL to play for the Waterloo Black Hawks until he is eligible in mid-December. Unfortunately for Montour and the UMass Minutemen, Montour will miss the first 15 games of the NCAA season, and only be eligible for a single game before the league breaks December 16 for the holiday break.
