Blayne Oliver Making An Impact In Trenton
Oliver has been regularly hitting the scoresheet for the Golden Hawks, and was also named an assistant captain, despite it being his first season with the organization.
“Blayne has had a substantial impact on the team,” says Trenton head coach Jerome Dupont. “His was chosen Assistant Captain because of his leadership qualities, plays in all situations and has played very well all while logging about 23 shifts per game.”
Known as a tough competitor, Oliver has proven himself to have an offensive upside as well, scoring at nearly a point-per-game pace through the first month of the OJHL season.
The defenseman, who spent the past two seasons with the GOJHL’s Chatham Maroons, had 8 assists through his first 10 games with Trenton.
His start with the Trenton Golden Hawks has almost matched Oliver’s point outputs for all of last season, as he had 2 goals, 9 assists and 11 points in 42 games with the Chatham Maroons.
For Oliver, playing in Trenton has been a positive experience, surround by players like himself, who are all aiming to reach a higher level.
“It’s a great atmosphere to play in,” says Oliver, who grew up playing minor hockey in Blenheim, and with the Chatham-Kent Cyclones ‘AAA’ organization.
“Every single player is trying to make it to the next level of hockey and that mentality shows on the ice. We are off to a great start so far, but our division is very competitive and to stay on top we can’t afford to take any nights off.”
Oliver, who is currently enrolled in classes at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, hopes to parlay his season in the OJHL into an NCAA hockey scholarship.
