Blades Win On Late Game Goal
Horvath scored the game tying and game winning goals in the third period, and also assisted on Teddy McGeen’s third period powerplay goal, propelling his team to the win.
The third period scoring spree capped off a pair of four point nights for McGeen and Horvath, who each finished the evening with two goals and two assists. McGeen’s other goal opened the second period on the powerplay, with Horvath and Bryan Boersma assisting.
Blenheim also got goals from Kellen Kaniecki and Corbin Hagerman in the victory.
Horvath has caught fire as of late, and now sits second in the Great Lakes loop in scoring with 9 goals and 5 assists for 14 points in only 8 games. His 9 goals are tied for the league lead with Wheatley Sharks captain Jimmy Ciacelli. He sits 5 points behind Sharks forward Scott Florence for the league point lead, but has played two less games than Florence and the Wheatley Sharks.
The win boosts the Blenheim Blades into second overall in the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League with a 6-2 record, only 1-point behind the first place Essex 73s.
The Blenheim Blades will next travel to face the Dresden Kings Friday, October 10 at the Lambton-Kent Agricultural Memorial Centre, with puck drop at 7:30 pm. In their first meeting of the 2014-2015 regular season, the Dresden Kings shutout the Blenheim Blades 2-0 on the back of a spectacular performance by goaltender Scott Ticker.
The Dresden Kings currently sit fifth in the Great Lakes with a 5-3 record.
