Chatham-Kent SportsXpress Publishing Locally
“The main goal of the SportsXpress franchise is to connect people to the many different sports within their community. We don’t just cover the big stories. We want to shine a light on all ages, all skill levels, and the people behind the bench who make things happen,” says Chatham SportsXpress editor Amber Valade.
“When people grab a copy of the magazine, they can expect to see stories on people they know. I love seeing people open it for the first time, and see them get excited about the article on the kid they used to coach, or their neighbour’s daughter.”
The magazine, which is part of a Canada wide chain of magazines, publishes 10,000 copies every two months, for a total of six magazines per year. With the third edition going to press, Valade is proud of the product they’ve put out so far, showcasing some of Chatham-Kent’s top athletes and teams.
“The best part of the magazine for our local sports community is that it is sort of a yearbook of what happened this year. We try to gather the most compelling and deserving stories, and we are getting more and more content from the community, which brings us closer to our ultimate goal of it being 80% user-generated,” explains Valade. “It’s the stories Chatham-Kent wants to read, because they sent them in. We love that it’s a physical, tangible, hold-in-your-hands, cut-out-and-keep sort of thing that people can share with their friends and family, and be proud of.”
