After starring for the UCC Lancers last season, Blenheim’s Chris Hoy will remain a Lancer this season after making the University of Windsor Lancers men’s volleyball team.

Helping the UCC Lancers win a Kent championship last season, Hoy is entering his first year of OUA competition as a true freshman.

“For me it’s a feeling of accomplishment,” says Hoy of making the Windsor Lancers. “Since grade 11 I’ve had the goal to play at the next level and worked hard to get there.”

With Ursuline College last year, Chris Hoy was the teams setter, and had a plethora of options for the attack, including Cody Charlton, who is playing OCAA volleyball this year, and Luke Allin, who will play OUA basketball at Wilfrid Laurier this season. His team, which was veteran laden, and included numerous OFSAA medallists from the year prior, again returned to OFSAA last year.

Studying Human Kinetics at the University of Windsor, the six-foot-three right side hitter is hoping to make an instant impact with the Windsor Lancers, and help his team to the CIS tournament this year.

“My personal goal is to improve this year as much as I can, the game is a lot faster so it’s a bit of a transition,” says Hoy. “My second goal is the same as everyone else on the team, to make CIS’ this season.”

Hoy, who was an accomplished badminton player, among other sports in high school, also played baseball this past summer for the Chatham Diamonds.

The Lancers are already preparing for the upcoming season, traveling to Kamloops, British Columbia for a preseason exhibition series against the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack.

Chris Hoy and the Windsor Lancers will kick off their OUA volleyball season October 18 when they face the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton. They don’t play a home contest until Halloween night, October 31 when the Lancers will host the Guelph Gryphons.
