Chatham’s Joseph Raaymakers had a game of firsts for the OHL’s Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds Sunday night, as the 16-year-old rookie started his first OHL game, and picked up his first OHL win, shutout, and was named the games first star.

Facing the perennial powerhouse London Knights, Raaymakers made 31 saves leading the Soo Greyhounds to a 5-0 victory.

Raaymakers win even included a penalty shot save in the second period, as he thwarted London’s Christian Dvorak.

So far this season, Raaymakers has watched from the bench as Brandon Halverson opened the season strong for the Greyhounds in net. Raaymakers however, made the most of his first start of the season in front of more than 4000 fans at the Essar Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Michael Bunting scored twice for the Greyhounds in the win, while Jean Dupuy, Gabe Guertier, and Colton White also scored for the Soo Greyhounds, who now sit first overall in the OHL with a 7-0 record.

Raaymakers was a student at Ecole Secondaire de Pain Court last year, when he played for the Chatham-Kent Cyclones Minor Midget ‘AAA’ team, before being drafted by the Soo Greyhounds in the second round, 35th overall in this springs OHL priority draft.
