Jamie Schaafsma Named Captain Of ECHL’s Americans
“So honoured to be named captain of such a great hockey team,” Tweeted Jamie Schaafsma about being named captain of the Allen Americans.
Schaafsma, who is in his third season with the Allen Americans, scored 21 goals and added 34 assists for the Americans last season, before exploding for 10 goals and 10 assists in the playoffs, en route to winning a Central Hockey League championships, and being named the CHL’s Playoff MVP.
The Allen Americans are one of seven former Central Hockey League teams joining the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) this season.
Jamie Schaafsma and the Allen Americans will open their inaugural ECHL season Friday, October 24 against the Tulsa Oilers at home, before travelling to play the Wichita Thunder.
Schaafsma isn’t the only Chatham-Kent hockey product playing in the ECHL this season, as Thamesville’s Dane Fox is skating for the Kalamazoo Wings. Last season, Chatham’s Jason Missiaen split time between the ECHL’s Greenville Road Warriors and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack.
