Kings Sink Sharks In Shootout
Jimmy Ciacelli and Shawn Hope scored in the first period for Wheatley, silencing the Kings’ home crowd.
In the second period however, the Kings’ powerplay heated up, and propelled them back into the game. Rookie Ross Krieger was the first to score for the Kings on the powerplay, followed by captain Jim McKinlay.
Just as they ended the first period, the Wheatley Sharks would again end the second period with a two goal lead despite Dresden’s new life, as Brendon Anger scored a pair of goals to send the Sharks to the third up 4-2.
It was Dresden’s powerplay again in the third period that allowed them back into the game, as Taylor Sisson and Derek Daly scored in the third period on the man advantage. John Montgomery finished the game with three assists for the Kings, while Krieger and Sisson also had multi-point games.
Neither team could score in the second half of the third period, nor in the extra frame, sending the game to a shootout.
Derek Daly and Dillon Liberty scored in the shootout, while Kings goaltender Steven Taylor shut the door to lift Dresden to the 5-4 win.
Wheatley will face Amherstburg Saturday night, while Dresden is off until Wednesday when they play the Wallaceburg Lakers.
