The Chatham Maroons were looking to gain ground on the GOJHL Western Conference’s top three teams, but couldn’t top the Leamington Flyers Thursday night on the road.

Leamington, who now sit 7-points ahead of the Maroons, defeated Chatham 5-2.

After Leamington’s Chris Scott opened the scoring in the first period, Dede Cato got the Maroons on the board, knotting the game at 1-1 after the first period. Assists on the play went to Ian Faubert and Mark Fratarcangelli.

In the second frame, Wheatley’s Kyle Quick scored to give Leamington the lead, before Matt Opblinger extended the Flyers’ lead to 3-1.

Entering the third period down a pair, the Chatham Maroons were looking to get their offense going, however Flyers captain Mitchell Amante struck first, putting the home team up by four.

Mark Fratarcangelli answered back only a minute later, with assists going to Steven Szekesy and Levi Tetrault.

Fratarcangelli’s goal would be all the scoring Chatham could muster in the game however, as Leamington would shut the door, adding an empty netter to close out the 5-2 win.

The Maroons will now prepare to host the LaSalle Vipers this Sunday night. Prior to the game, Chatham will induct George Aitken and Copper Leyte into their “Faces of the Maroons.”
