The Wallaceburg Lakers picked up their first win of the season, defeating the Dresden Jr. Kings on home ice Wednesday night 6-4.

Wallaceburg Lakers forward Matt Clark had an exceptional game, picking up a hat trick and an assist en route to the Lakers first victory.

In the opening frame, Wallaceburg looked destined to remain winless this season, falling behind 2-0 on Dresden goals by Derek Daly and Mike Myers.

The second period however, was a different story as the Wallaceburg Lakers came out firing with three unanswered goals from Trevor Waller, Mike Kindrachuk, and Matt Clark. Dresden answered back to tie the game on a goal by Derrick Van Every, but Clark would answer back with his second of the game before the period was out.

John Montgomery scored to tie the game 4-4 midway through the third period, but Wallaceburg wasn’t done, answering back with a goal from Jackson Gray, which would stand as the winner. Clark would finish his hat trick in the games final minute, scoring the insurance marker to finalize the 6-4 score.

The Lakers wore pink jerseys Wednesday, raising money for Breast Buddies in support of breast cancer. They also sold breast cancer t-shirts at the game.

Wallaceburg will take on the Alvinston Flyers Friday, while the Dresden Kings will host the Blenheim Blades.
