Sarnia Beavers Relocating To Wallaceburg
“Wallaceburg Lacrosse is pleased to announce a franchise relocation is coming to Wallaceburg. The Sarnia Beavers lacrosse club will no longer continue operations into the 2015 season. After three seasons in Sarnia, the Beavers achieved two playoff appearances playing in the OLA Sr. B league. At the past meeting, the Ontario Senior ‘B’ league approved the team to move down highway 40 to Wallaceburg,” read the news release.
Last season the Beavers featured Wallaceburg product Clint Lamarsh, as well as NLL goaltender, Wallaceburg Red Devils alumni, and current Wallaceburg resident Tye Belanger.
According to Wallaceburg Lacrosse, a new identity and name for the team is still to be announced and decided.
“With a new team, a new atmosphere, comes a new identity. The team is looking for support from the community,” read the Wallaceburg Lacrosse release. “A team name and head coach position need to be chosen. The Beavers name will not stay with the team in Wallaceburg. We are open to suggestions of a new nickname at this time.
The Wallaceburg Senior B Lacrosse team will join the Junior B Wallaceburg Red Devils, and the Minor Wallaceburg Griffins as residents of the Wallaceburg Memorial Arena this summer, and in the growing local lacrosse community.
The OLA Senior B Lacrosse league is a place for current and former National Lacrosse League players to continue competing, including Belanger, and Toronto Rock player Jim Purves who also suited up for the Sarnia Beavers last season, as well as for recent OLA Junior B and A graduates to continue playing competitive lacrosse.
In 2014, the Sarnia Beavers finished 6th in the 7 team OLA Senior A Lacrosse loop, with a 4-12 record. The new Wallaceburg Senior B Lacrosse team will begin play in the summer of 2015.
