Chatham-Kent September Athlete of the Month: Dalton Shuian
Shuian took 23% of the vote after dominating the Lambton-Kent Secondary School Athletic Association (LKSSAA) 8-man senior football league during September.
Shuian powered the Blenheim Bobcats football team through their first month of LKSSAA season, starting with a three touchdownm, 118 rushing yard performance in a 34-0 win over the St. Clair Colts, September 12.
In his second game of the season facing the John McGregor Panthers, Shuian exploded for 193-yards and four touchdowns in a 49-28 victory.
Shuian closed out the month scoring one touchdown, catching a two-point convert, and collecting 90-yards in a win over the LCCVI Lancers (Petrolia) to keep Blenheim perfect in September.
Over that three game span, Shuian collected eight touchdowns, and nearly 134-yards per game.
Runner Up: Brooke MacKinnon won multiple championships during the month of September. She was the first ever LKSSAA golf champion, pounding her competition by 9-strokes representing Chatham-Kent Secondary School. At SWOSSAA, MacKinnon missed a title by one stroke, but qualified for OFSAA golf for the second straight year. MacKinnon was also CKSS’ leading scorer for the Junior Girls basketball team en route to a tournament win in Georgetown, scoring 48-points in 4 games, including 11 in the final. MacKinnon was also CKSS’ leading scorer in their LKSSAA basketball season opener, and scored 16-points in CKSS’ first win to close the month

It’s a lot of work for little reward on our side, but I see the benefit for the kids and our community. Just last week I had an athlete approach me saying an NCAA school contacted him after following his successes on CKSN. Those kinds of stories, and celebrating our local athletes, make it worth it, and I truly appreciate the kind words.
