The Wallaceburg Lakers held off a crazy comeback by the Wheatley Sharks Wednesday night, to pick up two points in a shootout.

After leading 3-1 with only 32 seconds remaining, the Wheatley Sharks scored a pair of quick goals to tie the game 3-3, and send it to a shootout.

In the shootout, each team traded goals, until Lakers netminder Joel Sowinski shut the door, allowing Frankie White’s goal to stand as the winner.

To open the game, Shawn Hope scored for the Wheatley Sharks. Wallaceburg would bounce back quickly in the first period with goals from Brock Daugherty and Mike Kindrachuk.

Lucais Meyskens, who assisted on Kindrachuk’s powerplay goal in the first, would open the third period with a goal, before Wheatley began their comeback.

With only 32 seconds remaining, Michael Travis scored to pull the Sharks within 1 goals, before Scott Florence scored with only 10 seconds left to tie the game.

After overtime solves nothing, it was White’s shootout winner that gave the Wallaceburg Lakers their second win of the season.

Wallaceburg is back on the ice Saturday in Lakeshore, before hosting the Alvinston Flyers next Wednesday.
