The South Kent Chiefs, formerly known as the Ridgetown-Blenheim Chiefs, had a big win, with big motivation this past weekend.

The Chiefs ran their winning streak to four games with a convincing 9-2 thumping of the Mooretown Flags this past Saturday night, but more importantly, honoured their fallen teammate, Devin Tedford, lovingly known as “Teddy,” who passed away this summer.

With many of last years OMHA Champion Chiefs on hand to pay their respects, the team held a pre-game ceremony in honour of Tedford. The Mooretown captain presented Tina Tedford with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the Flags, while the several hundred fans who were in attendance and also paid their respect with a thirty second moment of silence for Teddy. Pete and Tina Tedford were then escorted to the centre for the ceremonial puck drop and the game was underway.

In the game itself, the South Kent Chiefs came out flying, scoring early and often taking a 3-1 into the second period. Scoring for the Chiefs in the first period were Drew Medd with two, and Eric Oulds with a single. Assists on the goals went to Cole McDonald, Hudson Mallet, and Spencer Clarke.

The Chiefs score five times in the second to put the game away, with goals going to Eric Oulds, who scored twice to cap off his hat trick, Drew Swiss, Kurt Beecroft, and Blake Padbury. Getting the helpers were Nolan Smith with two, Mitch Ross, Dylan Wales, Brodie Vanboxtel, Mario Naclerio, Brady Shepherd, and Owen Welch.

The Chiefs finished off their scoring in the third to take a 9-2 lead. Drew Swiss scored his second of the game at the 1:03 mark, while Mitch Ross got the helper. Jason Buma was between the pipes and took the win for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs next home game is against the powerful Erie Shore team on November 15th at 8pm.
