Former OHL goaltender Jake Patterson, who signed with the Chatham Maroons last week, made his GOJHL season debut Sunday night in relief of goaltender Bo Bessette.

Patterson came into Thursday’s game against the Sarnia Legionnaires early in the season period after Bessette allowed 5 goals on 18 shots and the Maroons trailed 5-2.

Chatham’s first two goals in the game came on the powerplay from Steven Szekesy and Brayden Hopkins.

After Patterson came into the game, the Maroons offense responded, with Michael Levesque scoring a pair, and Steven Beenackers also finding the back of the net to tie the game 5-5 heading into the third period.

Unfortunately for Patterson, he would be charged with the loss in the game as Sarnia’s Jake O’Donnell scored in the final minute of the game to lift the Sarnia Legionnaires to the 6-5 win.

Patterson stopped 10 of the 11 shots he faced. Patterson, who spent the last three seasons with the OHL’s London Knights, has not played this season since leaving the Knights prior to training camp.

The game was also the head coaching debut of Tyler Roezler, who was hired by the Chatham Maroons after the team parted ways with former head coach and general manager Mark Davis earlier in the week.

Chatham is back in action this Sunday when they host the St. Thomas Stars at Memorial Arena. Puck drop is at 7:00pm.
