The Essex 73s came into Wednesday night’s match up against the Wallaceburg Lakers only 24-hours after drubbing the Wheatley Sharks 10-0.

The Wallaceburg Lakers, although they fell 4-2 to Essex, held strong against the 73s’ powerful offense.

Essex jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening period, with goals from Jordan Ryan and Josh Pope-Ferguson.

In the second period, Phil Janikowski made it 3-0. Matthew Rosati scored Essex’s fourth goal early in the third, but from that point out, the game was controlled by the Wallaceburg Lakers.

Wallaceburg started battling back, and got on the board on a Bronson Bea marker midway through the third.

Trevor Waller kept things going scoring again for the Lakers, who outshot Essex in the third, to make it 4-2. Unfortunately for Wallaceburg, they would run out of time on their comeback.

All teams in the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League are off Thursday for the 2014 Prospects Game in Lakeshore, where the leagues 1997 and 1998 prospects will take on youngsters from the SOJHL.
