Highgate’s Meredith Goldhawk has committed to play for the University of Windsor Lancers women’s hockey team for the 2014-2015 season.

A senior at Ridgetown District High School, Goldhawk is playing this season for the PWHL’s Bluewater Hawks, where she had 1 goal and 3 assists in her first 9 games.

“Committing to Windsor has been an honour,” says Goldhawk. “Not many kids get this opportunity and I’m very grateful that I am one of them. It’s an amazing feeling. It’s a dream that I have always been chasing after since I started playing hockey. I honestly feel blessed, and thankful because without the support of family and friends, I wouldn’t be where I am today. It took a lot hard work and dedication in the gym and on the ice, and it finally paying off,” said Goldhawk, who also credited her training with Bob Vandersluis at Peak Athletic Training for her success.

In 22 regular season games last year with the Chatham Outlaws Midget ‘AA’ team, Goldhawk had 2 goals and 5 assists. She also suited up for the Ridgetown Royals high school hockey team.

For Goldhawk, the decision to head down the 401 to the University of Windsor.

“I chose Windsor for many reasons; it’s close to home, it’s a highly skilled team with a great coaching staff, and it has the program that I was interested in. Overall I couldn’t be happier, I’m very excited to start my new journey as a Lancer next year,” said Goldhawk.

Goldhawk plans to study Human Kinetics at Windsor.

She will join Dresden’s Zoe Ellis, who is playing in her first season with the University of Windsor Lancers. Ellis and Goldhawk were Chatham Outlaws teammates last season. The Lancers roster also features Bree Polci, a former Chatham-Kent Cyclones player.
