Senior B Lacrosse Team Named: Wallaceburg Satans
Upon announcing the Sarnia Beavers Senior B lacrosse franchise would be moving to Wallaceburg earlier this Fall, Wallaceburg organizers stated the “Beavers” moniker would not follow the team, which is when the naming process began. The Wallaceburg Satans name relates to Wallaceburg’s Junior B organization, the Wallaceburg Red Devils, and also has history in Wallaceburg.
“The Satans moniker comes from the storied history of Wallaceburg lacrosse. Dating back to the 1970’s Wallaceburg had two teams — the senior Red Devils and the junior Satans. Now, more than 40 years later, it only seems fitting to revisit the storied history of lacrosse in Wallaceburg,” new Wallaceburg Satans president Steve Lilley wrote on the teams Facebook page.
The opportunity to house a Senior B lacrosse team in Wallaceburg allows local players to continue competing after Junior, and is also a place for National Lacrosse League players to hone their skills in the offseason.
“This is a great opportunity for the town and community of Wallaceburg to watch a high level of lacrosse,” said Tye Belanger in a prior interview with CKSN. Belanger is an NLL lacrosse player with the Colorado Mammoth, who played for the Sarnia Beavers last season, and was instrumental in the relocation of the franchise.
“Being able to have this team just shows that the lacrosse interest and love of the game is strong in Wallaceburg. This new senior team gives players an opportunity to continue their lacrosse careers after the junior level,” explained Belanger.
In 2014, the Sarnia Beavers finished 6th in the 7 team OLA Senior A Lacrosse loop, with a 4-12 record. The new Wallaceburg Satans Senior B Lacrosse team will begin play in the summer of 2015.
With a name in place, the team is now looking for logo ideas for the Wallaceburg Satans, who will be black, red, and white.
“Now with a name, the next step is the logo,” the team wrote on Facebook. “Starting Wednesday, Nov. 5, we are reaching out to the community for inspiration on the new logo. Do you have a logo or inspiration in mind? If you do, the Satans invite you to email team president Steve Lilley (slilley@wallaceburglacrosse.com) with your ideas. Your idea can be sketches, a detailed description, or completed design. When submitting a design, keep in mind that we are going with red, white and black for the team colours. We will be accepting logo designs and ideas until Nov. 12 at 5pm.”
