Ellis Living Her Hockey Dream
From a very young age, Zoe Ellis has poured her heart and soul into playing the game she loves, and it’s finally paying off.
The 17-year-old from Dresden landed a spot on the Windsor Lancers Women’s Hockey team this past year, being the only student from her graduating class to go on to play in the OUA.
“It is such an honour,” Ellis says. “My goal from day one was to play hockey at a high level and being where I am today, is a dream come true.”
The first year Human Kinetics student says, “The hardest thing to get used to so far is managing time. Between on ice practices, off ice practices, and class, you still have to find time to study and keep up on sleep.”
Ellis played for the Chatham Midget AA team last year, picking up 6 assists in 19 regular season games. She says this year’s hockey is much different than what she is used to.
“It’s much faster this year, giving you less time to make decisions with the puck and forcing you to constantly keep your head up and make quick decisions.”
LKCS is hoping to produce another female all star on the ice. Ally Daly, a grade 12 student from Thamesville, also hopes to make an impact on the rinks. So far this year playing with the Chatham Outlaws Midget AA Rep team, Daly has one point in just four games in the regular season. Last year, in 22 games played, she racked up a total of 9 points.
