The Blenheim Blast Swim Team travelled to the Windsor Aquatic and International Training Centre December 12-14 to compete in the Division III Team Championships. Twenty five teams from across the province travelled to compete in this annual team competition.

10 year Old Gracin Black dominated the boys’ 10 & under age group, winning gold in both the 100m Breast (1:40.86) and 200m I.M (3:30.81) events. Gracin also won silver in the 100, I.M. in a time of 1:32.99, and captured a bronze to round out his collection in the 200m Freestyle (3:09.59).

Shania Van Herk (17) also won a complete set of medals at this event, capturing gold in the 200m Back (2:23.59) in the women’s 15 & over age category. Shania won silver in the 100m Free in a time of 1:00.54, and finished her medal collection with a bronze medal finish in the 200m I.M. (2:28.84). 15 year old Rain Pfaff won two bronze medals in both the 100m Breast (1:19.11) and 200m Breast (2:55.22) events. Rain qualified for four other finals, finishing in the top ten for each of her six events.
15 year old Brendan Van Herk won a silver medal in the 200m Breast (2:34.54) and won bronze in the 200m Back (2:12.86). Brendan was also seventh in the 200 I.M.

River Pfaff (17) had two top ten performances, just missing the podium in the men’s 15 & over 200m Breast in a time of 2:37.75. River was also sixth in the 100m Fly (1:02.32) Sunday January 25.
13 year old Grace Hansen narrowly missed the podium in the 13-14 year old girls’ 100m Breast in a time of 1:24.74. Grace was also ninth in the50m Free.

January will be a busy month for the team with the 12 & under Cup, the Guelph Invitational and the Blast will host the S.E.A.L. meet at the Gable Rees Rotary Pool January 25.
