Lightning Win Silver Stick
The South Kent Lightning Midget AE team played 5 games this past weekend as a part of the Regional Silver Stick. The team went 4-1 to capture the Silver Stick championship, qualifying for the International Silver Stick in Pelham this January, where they’ll face teams from across North America.
“The South Kent Lightning played with all heart,” says head coach Jason Ulch about the win. “I am so proud of this team. We clicked right from the start and have only gotten better this season.”
The South Kent Lightning opened the regional Silver Stick tournament beating Lambton Shores 3-0, before losing their only game to Ilderton 3-2. Facing Goderich in their third game, South Kent took a lopsided 7-2 decision, advancing them to the semi-final.
In the semi-final, the South Kent Lightning Midget AE team beat Strathroy 3-1, advancing to the finals where they defeated Mt. Brydges 5-4.
Now, the team will prepare for January’s International Silver Stick, which coach Ulch believes will be a good challenge and experience for his team, and the South Kent organization.
“It is going to be a tough road, but I feel our team is up for the challenge,” says Ulch. :This is South Kent’s first year of hockey and bringing something like this home means a lot to the organization.”
