Maroons Win In Shootout

Chatham-Maroons-Jersey-New-DarkThe Chatham Maroons needed a shootout to gain their second straight victory, but were successful in doing just that Saturday night in Strathroy.

Jake Patterson made 38 saves, and Brennan Feasey and Alex Morgan scored in the shootout to lift the Maroons to a 3-2 win over the Strathroy Rockets. The win had huge implications in the standings, as Chatham entered the game only one point ahead of Strathroy, but ended the evening with a three point cushion, and the retention of their third overall position.

To open the game, Strathroy’s Sam Vokes scored on the powerplay, putting the Maroons behind by one. Still in the first period however, Alex Morgan would strike for Chatham, with an assist going to Steven Szekesy.

After a scoreless second period, Strathroy scored their second powerplay goal of the game, this one by Mark MacAulay.

Chatham’s top line would even the score with roughly five minutes to go as Michael Verboom scored with assists going to Morgan and Brennan Feasey.

With overtime solving nothing, Feasey and Morgan would score in the shootout, while Patterson shut the door in net, to lift the Maroons to a 3-2 victory.

Chatham is back in action Sunday night agains the St. Thomas Stars.
