Montgomery Lifts Kings In OT
Dresden’s penalty kill excelled, as the Kings gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.
Dresden was sparked by Montgomery, who finished with one goal and one assist. Montgomery scored 4:59 into overtime to make the score 5-4 Dresden.
The Kings kept Amherstburg’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Arren Romeril made 27 saves on 32 shots.
Dresden also had goals scored by Kevin Ritzer, Derek Shaw, Will Tetzlaff, and Derek Daly, who scored one goal each. In addition, Dresden received assists from Derrick VanEvery, who had two and Graham Smyth and Justin Melo, who each chipped in one.
The Admirals stifled Dresden’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.
Amherstburg was led by Chad Copeland, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Copeland scored 16:17 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Amherstburg. James Brooks provided the assist. Others who scored for Amherstburg included Mark Sobocan, Steven Spada, and Dean Patterson, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstburg were Conor Rennie, Dan Matoski, and Luke Gangnon, who contributed one each.
The Kings’ Daniel Tonietto stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Dresden incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Admirals incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
