The Wallaceburg Lakers are losers no more, snapping their 20 game losing streak Friday night with a 5-4 overtime victory over the Alvinston Flyers.

Captain Lucais Meyskens opened the scoring for Wallaceburg, with Ryan Gruszka and Trevor Waller assisting. Gruszka and Meyskens would power the Lakers throughout the night, each finishing with three points.

After Alvinston scored a pair, Cory Lucier and Mike Brown responded for the Lakers to keep Wallaceburg ahead 3-2 after the opening frame.

Playing to a scoreless second period, Wallaceburg entered the third period holding a one goal lead, but Alvinston would fight back, scoring two goals to take a 4-3 lead early in the period. Meyskens scored his second of the game 12-minutes into the third, with Gruszka and Brown assisting to tie the score at 4-4, sending the game to overtime.

In the extra frame, Ryan Gruszka played the hero for the Lakers. Gruszka scored the game winner, with Meyskens assisting to help the Lakers snap their 20-game losing streak with the 5-4 win.

Scotty Gray made 36 saves in the win for Wallaceburg.

Wallaceburg will travel to face the Dresden Kings Sunday, before hosting the Blenheim Blades next Wednesday.
