Racing In Jeopardy In Dresden
According to a story originally published by the Wallaceburg Courier Press, standardbred horse racing at Dresden Raceway this spring and summer could be delayed due to issues with the Raceway’s board of directors.
Last year, the Dresden Agricultural Society took over operations at Dresden Raceway, and although 2014 offered a schedule of 11 successful dates, 2015’s calendar currently sits blank as the Ontario Racing Commission has yet to issue an operating license to the racetrack for this season.
With proposed dates beginning May 31, the issues began, according to the Courier Press’ article, with the dismissal, and re-instatement of Dresden Agricultural Society president Lucille Laprise, and then the dismissal of the entire Society Board of Directors.
With governance turmoil troubling the organization, it seems the Ontario Racing Commission will wait for things to settle in Dresden before issuing a license for the season. The delay in this process could delay, or cost Dresden racing dates.
