Sharks Lose Important Game

The Wheatley Sharks and Alvinston Flyers were battling for playoff positioning Saturday night in Wheatley, and neither team gave up easy.

In fact, the game went to a shootout, where the Alvinston Flyers eventually prevailed 2-1 in a shootout. The win temporarily moved Alvinston into a tie for 4th place with Blenheim at 40-points, while Wheatley slid into 7th place at 37-points.

Alvinston’s Kole Keating opened the scoring in the first period, the only goal of the frame.

In the second period, Riley Enns, with assists going to Lucas Raffoul and Austin Thompson, tied the game at 1-1.

Sharks goaltender Connor MacKinnon would shut the door for Wheatley after that, stopping 33 shots in the game, but he couldn’t stop Alvinston’s shooters in the shootout, as Alvinston scored both of their attempts to take the game.
