Wallaceburg’s Joel Shepley continues to impress across the lacrosse world, hearing his name Sunday in the Major Series Lacrosse Draft by the Senior A Brampton Excelsiors.

Shepley was selected 19th overall in the 4th round of the draft.

“It’s exciting to be drafted by an organization with so much history behind it,” said Shepley. “I wasn’t expecting anything, so to hear that I got picked was pretty cool.”

Most players in the MSL currently, or have previously played in the NLL.

Shepley, who captained the Wallaceburg Red Devils last year before joining the Junior A Six Nations Arrows en route to a Minto Cup as Canadian Champions, is currently playing in the Canadian Lacrosse League for the Southwest Cyclops.

After last winning the MSL title in 2011, Brampton finished at the bottom of the MSL standings last season with a 5-13-0 record, missing the playoffs.

Shepley had 7 goals and 14 assists in 14 games with the Red Devils last season, before signing with the Six Nations Arrows. With Six Nations, Shepley had 5 assists in 23 regular season and playoff games, before collecting 3 goals and 3 assists in 4 Minto Cup games. He was scoreless through 2 games with the CLax Southwest Cyclops thus far this season.
