A week ago, Michael Verboom was captaining the Junior B Chatham Maroons. This weekend however, Verboom made his NCAA debut, ending his Junior career and beginning the next chapter of his hockey career.

Verboom took one shot, and was a +1 in his collegiate debut with the Mercyhurst University Lakers. Mercyhurst defeated Holy Cross 2-1 in the game. Verboom also took a tripping penalty in the game.

The following night, Verboom and the Mercyhurst Lakers again faced Holy Cross, this time taking a 5-4 win. Verboom blocked two shots and was 1-for-3 on faceoffs in his second NCAA game.

The pair of wins helped Mercyhurst improve to 12-7-3 on the season, and 10-3-2 in Conference play.

Mercyhurst is third in the Atlantic Hockey Association, an NCAA Division I conference.

While with the Chatham Maroons this season, Verboom, who was captaining the GOJHl Junior B team, had 13 goals and 41 assists for 54 points in only 33 games. In 188 career GOJHL games, all with the Chatham Maroons, Verboom had 269 points.
