The Lambton-Kent Cardinals boys hockey team captured the LKSSAA ‘A-AA’ championship Thursday afternoon defeating the LCCVI Lancers.

The game, a back and forth nail biter, saw the Cardinals of Dresden, defeat Petrolia’s Lambton Central squad 2-1.

Lambton-Kent opened the scoring only 10-seconds into the game as captain Kyle Dawson fed Clint Jones to spot the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.

After LCCVI’s Zach Vanderwal, tied the score at one just over 6 minutes into the third period, slipping the only goal by LKCS netminder Chris Dewulf, Dresden shut the door defensively on the Lancers.

The deadlock was broken only minutes later, as the Lambton-Kent Cardinals got all the offence they needed off the stick of Aaron Underwood, who scored the game winning goal at 11:24 of the third, with assists going to Kyle Dawson and Clint Jones.

Lambton-Kent will now advance to the SWOSSAA ‘A-AA’ champinship next week facing the WECSSAA champion.
