The Chatham Maroons came out flat in game one of the GOJHL Western Conference playoffs. Their opponent, the London Nationals beat the Maroons to loose pucks, broke up the Maroons’ breakout, and dominated the puck possession game in terms of takeaways versus giveaways.

After a scoreless first, London got the ball rolling and never looked back en route to a 4-2 win in game one.

London’s Tanner Ferreira opened the scoring in the second, followed by Austin Kemp scoring to give the Nationals a 2-0 lead.

After Chatham coach Tyler Roeszler called a timeout, his team started to show some life, including a powerplay marker by Steven Szekesy.

The Maroons, who averaged more than 5 goals per game in the regular season, struggled to get their high powered offense going as the London Nationals took away all time and space from Chatham’s forwards in the game.

In the third period, London’s Kyle Robinson put the Nationals up 3-1. In the dying seconds, Gus Ford scored to pull Chatham back within one, but Nationals captain Derek Todosichuk would slide a shot into the open net to finish off the scoring seconds later.

Chatham netminder Jake Patterson took the loss in net making 27 saves.

The team’s will meet for game two of the series Saturday, February 28th, 2015, at 7:30pm, at Western Fair in London, before returning to Chatham Sunday, March 1st, at 7:00pm for game three.
