I recently attended a Chatham Maroons home game, and I could instantly see that the enthusiasm of the fans was very evident. In fact anyone I ask has always told me that Hockey has an important place in not only Canada’s heart but in especially Chatham-Kent’s (Just ask anyone who was at the game). The Chatham Maroons are a really good team who has a very big fan base the only thing that they don’t have on their side is an arena suitable for league style play. When rumours swirled about an OHL team coming to Chatham supposedly everyone knew when they bowed out it was because we didn’t have an OHL-suitable arena. Both Memorial Arena and Bill Erickson Arena are in dire need of numerous improvements and upgrades Enter a grass roots movement which was started by a close good friend of mine and a few of his buddies to bring the long overdue arena upgrades we so desperately need. The Kraft Hockeyville competition is an annual contest that helps cities and towns in this very department, not only that but the victorious winning town also gets on top of Arena upgrades an NHL Game played at that arena.

Just imagine what it would be like if Chatham had an NHL Game at Memorial Arena, let me tell you I would be over the moon to see something of that calibre in our town, and I am sure all the fans of the Chatham Jr. Maroons would agree with me.
