The World Waits For Emma Gorski

Emma-Gorski-HockeyMost young athletes are lucky if they are fortunate enough to travel the world to play the game they love. Emma Gorski is one of those lucky athletes. Players skating in front of Gorski, a goaltender from Wallaceburg, Ontario, are the real lucky ones however, as they’ve got one of the best young goaltenders in Canada backing them up.

Gorski will be travelling to Bolzano, Italy this summer playing for the West Coast Selects, the same team she competed with last year in Finland and across North America.

“It is a privileged opportunity that I am so very lucky to have,” says Gorski, who is in grade 8 at John N. Given in Chatham about travelling the world to play hockey. “It is something I think about each day because of the endless unforgettable memories from this experience. As a young hockey player it makes a great childhood. Traveling and playing this type of game has truly made me a stronger player mentally, this will help me with future obstacles not just in sports.”

Gorski and her team, which includes another Wallaceburg product, and a teammate of hers from the Sarnia Lady Sting Bantam ‘AA’ team, Kaitlyn Isaac, will also play tournaments in Toronto, Serbrooke (Quebec), and Buffalo.

For Gorski, getting to play against top talent from across the globe has been an eye opener, and helped her to hone her skills.

“As a goaltender the talent really was an eye opener,” says Gorski of competing with the West Coast Selects. “These girls showed me things I have never seen before and would have never expected.”

Last season, Gorski had 4 shutouts, including against Russia, the Chicago Young Americans, and the East Coast Selects, en route to helping her West Coast Selects win the NAPS Chicago and NAPS Buffalo tournaments, and finish as the runners up at the Sherbrooke Invitations, and World Selects Invitational in Finland.

With a big summer ahead, Gorski has even larger goals in her sights as she continues her hockey career.

“From when I first began being a goaltender, my big goal was to play in the Olympics,” says Gorski, who described her plan, and the steps she is taking, along with the hard work, to reach her goals.

“I have goals of playing the highest level of women’s hockey possible. Beginning with training in the PWHL, then transitioning into playing in the 2018 Olympics. As an athlete I hope to receive a scholarship playing Division I hockey,”
Gorski continued, saying she’d like to study kinesiology in the future.

With the world waiting, Gorski will have an incredible summer with the West Coast Selects; and with talent to burn, an incredible career is just beginning for Gorski, playing the game she loves.
