Blenheim’s Hailey Newham will be taking her basketball career to the next level this coming season, as the Blenheim District High School student has committed to play OCAA basketball for the Niagara College Knights.

Newham, who has played 5 seasons as the Blenheim Bobcats’ point guard, says she chose Niagara College for her academic program, police foundations, and was hooked after a visit to the school.

“I was told that Niagara had one of the best police foundation programs,” says Newham of choosing Niagara. “I was also in contact with the women’s basketball coach who offered me to come down during the open house and have a light workout with a couple of the girls from the team. After talking to the coach, the team seem to be headed in the right direction and I wanted to be a part of it.”

Newham was the Blenheim Bobcats senior girls basketball team leading scorer this past season in the LKSSAA Senior ‘A’ league, helping the Bobcats to the LKSSAA final, where they fell 35-31 to Pain Court despite Newham scoring a game high 18-points.

Heading to Niagara, Newham hopes to develop both on and off the court, and live her dream of playing post secondary athletics.

“Attending Niagara I hope to become the best person I can be on and off the court, while continuing my education, and living my dream of playing basketball after high school,” explained Newham, who was also a key component of Blenheim’s rugby and volleyball teams.

Niagara College plays in the OCAA’s West Division, and currently sits in 5th place with an 8-6 record.
